Our History

Founded in 1988 by Doug Catley and Peter Cottier, Healthcare of New Zealand Limited has grown rapidly to become the largest provider of home and community based health and disability services in New Zealand.

Starting with Johnswood, a small hospital in Upper Hutt providing continuing care for older people, the company went on to own or lease three other hospitals. This gave it a wealth of aged care experience from which to expand.

In the early 90’s, it became clear that health care services were moving toward looking after people in their own homes rather than in institutions. Duty Calls nursing was purchased and the company’s presence in the home and community support sector was cemented.

As expertise was built, the company looked to expand its services and established a disability services division in 1995. The trend towards home and community based support was also evident here with the closure of institutions around the country.

Healthcare of New Zealand has continued to grow at a rapid pace. Today it offers a wide range of services to compliment its core business of home and community based health and disability support.
