1988:

  • Healthcare of New Zealand Limited founded.

1989:.

  • Johnswood Aged Care Hospital purchased.

1990:

  • Three further aged care hospitals purchased – Bloomfield, Elderslea and Kairangi.
  • Healthcare Consulting Services created.

1991:

  • Duty Calls Nursing and Homecare Limited purchased, moving the company into home based services for the first time.

1994:

  • Community Services division established (Homecare 2000) and opened in Dunedin, Taranaki and Wellington (including Hutt Valley and Kapiti).
  • Gore Nursing Bureau purchased.

1995:

  • Homecare 2000 expands services into Lakeland, Hamilton, Southland, Christchurch and Manawatu.
  • Caring Choices Central and Southland purchased.
  • NZCare Group Limited established on the Kapiti Coast and Canterbury.
  • Tapanui District Nursing Service created.
  • Watsonia Continuing Care Hospital purchased.

1996:

  • Hugs Homecare Oamaru purchased.
  • Bay Nursing Tauranga purchased.
  • Companion Care, Napier purchased.
  • Homecare 2000 expands services into Balclutha, Timaru and Wanganui.

1997:

  • NZCare Group expands its operations into Porirua and Upper Hutt.
  • Access Management (NASC) established in the Hutt Valley.

1998:

  • NZCare expands its operations into the Wairarapa and Te Awamutu.
  • First Call Nursing and Homecare Limited purchased.
  • Homecare 2000 expands its services into Whakatane and Nelson.
  • Peter Cottier retires and Peter Hausmann is appointed Managing Director.

1999:

  • NZCare Group expands its operations into Nelson.

2000:

  • Homecare 2000 expands its services into Taupo.
  • Sport & Workfit Physiotherapy purchased.

2001:

  • Kaumatua appointed for the Company.
  • Community Services operations rebranded from Homecare 2000 to HealthCare NZ.

2002:

  • Health First Network purchased and merged with HealthCare NZ Christchurch.
  • Reed Medical Auckland purchased.
  • NZCare Group expands its operations into Feilding.
  • Johnswood Hospital closed and converted into Spring Lodge, a physical disability residential facility.

2003:

  • NZCare Group opens a temporary Huntington’s House.
  • Elderslea and Kairangi Hospitals sold.
  • Judith Lambert Homecare, Hastings purchased.
  • Certification against New Zealand Standards achieved for all NZCare services.

2004:

  • NZCare Group opens a specialist Huntington’s residential service – Amaryllis House (the old Watsonia Hospital).
  • Joint Venture with Wellington Free Ambulance agreed.
  • Freedom Medical Alarm established.
  • Nelmar Home Support, including WellCare Education purchased.

2005:

  • NZCare Group opens it first home in the Lower North Island for people leaving Kimberley.
  • Explore Specialist Services established to support people leaving Kimberley.
  • Certification against New Zealand Standards achieved for all HealthCare NZ branches.
