The Community Support Worker - Community Services provides high quality support to enable clients to remain in their own homes as independently as possible. Support can be household management and/or personal care; duties vary as all clients have an individualised support plan tailored to their specific needs and goals.

The support worker is in a unique position and is often the first to notice a client’s changing needs. Sometimes they’re the person a client sees most often, so play a critical role in the ongoing wellbeing of those they support.

Household management helps a client to organise and control their home environment.

Tasks may include assistance with:

  • Household laundry and ironing
  • Vacuuming and dusting
  • Cleaning kitchens and bathrooms
  • Bed changing and making
  • Help with meal preparation
  • Minor maintenance (e.g. changing a light bulb)
  • Identification of hazards or unsafe features in the client’s home.

Personal care helps with daily living activities.

Tasks may include assistance with:

  • Dressing/undressing
  • Personal grooming
  • Bathing/showering
  • Toileting
  • Assistance with mobility
  • Passive exercises/maintenance stretches.

Above all, support workers are good communicators, are reliable and trustworthy and operate with the highest level of integrity.
