Awhi te Tangata: Support the people
Our ultimate goal is to support people from all cultures to enjoy maximum quality of life, regardless of their age or any individual support needs they may have.
This means that we are committed to working closely with Māori iwi, whānau and cultural organisations to improve Māori access to high-quality home and community-based health care.
Guided by our kaumātua, we seek to support each person's wellbeing by following the holistic values of Whānau Ora, which we define as:
- working alongside all people in a way that is non-judgemental, client-centred and inspirational
- supporting the physical, mental, emotional, social, cultural and spiritual aspects of wellbeing
- supporting the connection between an individual’s wellbeing and their family/whānau’s wellbeing
- seeking to empower the individual, their family/whānau and their community.
Our Māori health plan
Our Māori health plan was developed by our Māori health manager and is designed to promote and increase cultural competency within the organisation.
Its content and objectives are based on the key principles of:
- Te Tiriti o Waitangi: The Treaty of Waitangi
- He Korowai Oranga: The Māori Health Strategy
- Whakatātaka: The Māori Health Action Plan.
The progress of this plan is monitored and evaluated by the organisation’s kaumātua, Māori health manager and Māori leadership group.
