Specialist disability support and training

If your organisation could benefit from specialist disability expertise, we can work with you to create practical solutions that better meet the needs of the people you support and enhance the capability of your workforce.

Our professional team specialises in supporting people with intellectual disabilities and works in a transdisciplinary way, bringing together expertise in clinical psychology, behaviour support, speech and language therapy, physiotherapy, occupational therapy and nurse consultancy.

Empowering you to promote people’s potential

If someone your organisation supports has an issue they are trying to overcome or a goal they would like to achieve, we can work alongside you to provide them with the additional help they need.

We work with people of all ages, including those who have high or complex needs and/or:

  • have challenging behaviour
  • are struggling to communicate their wishes/needs
  • have difficulty with swallowing or eating
  • need support to learn new skills
  • are making a transition from one stage in their lives to another.

We will complete a holistic assessment and planning process and will work with you to create a person centred programme of care.

This may involve providing the individual, their family/whānau and your support team with specialist coaching, mentoring and training that empowers them to develop practical new strategies and skills.

Our services will be coordinated by a lead specialist, who will ensure that you receive timely support that promotes long-lasting benefits for both your clients and team.

Developing your workforce

We can provide your employees with specialist workforce training programmes that enable them to develop the knowledge, skills and expertise they need to provide more competent and effective disability support.

We can tailor our training programmes to meet your team’s specific needs and to help them to work towards and achieve nationally recognised qualifications.

We offer learning opportunities across a wide range of topics, including:

  • communication
  • behaviour support
  • moving and handling
  • activity participation
  • autism spectrum disorders (ASD)
  • non-violent crisis intervention (NVCI).

Enhancing the quality of your organisation

To extend the range and quality of support services that you are able to offer, we can also provide your organisation assistance with:

  • service reviews and recommendations
  • completing eligibility assessments
  • developing your systems and policies.

To find out more or to discuss your specific needs, please call 0800 275 174, email explore@explore.org.nz or write to us at the address detailed on our contact us page.
