Congratulations Andrew!
We are delighted to announce that our client and Auckland based composer, Andrew McMillan, has been selected as one of three finalists in the Artistic Achievement category for the Attitude Awards 2017 – a premier event in the disability community.
Nominated by Healthcare Rehabilitation for the Award, Andrew is a talented composer, musician, performer, sound designer and director who became a tetraplegic following a BMX accident in 2004.
Andrew produces work for many genres including theatre sounds, art exhibition sound designs, dance, film and television. His work is being featured nationally and internationally. Highlights include:
- the sounds for theatre work The Arrival (played nationally and internationally) LISTEN… to this interview about it on Radio New Zealand
- the soundscape for sculpture Between the Silence Falls the Shadow which is permanently on display at the Passchendaele Museum in Belgium
- the composition for dance choreography Nature of the Beast (performed nationally and internationally)
- forming the group New Pacific Ensemble which has produced and recorded highly acclaimed music
- establishing Improvisor Performance nights where artists from different genres come together to perform (these nights now attract artists from around the world)
- being the Chair of Audio Foundation while also teaching, lecturing and performing under the stage name ‘Bonehead’
… and more. The list goes on.
The Artistic Achievement Award is about shinning the spotlight on artistic talent across any arts and where the disability may not be a factor in the person’s performance. Winners of each category will be announced at a formal gala dinner on 9 November 2017.
