Awhi Mai Awhi Atu – Wellbeing Support in schools

We know there’s nothing more important than the health and wellbeing of our tamariki and supporting them to thrive.

Supporting our tamariki to thrive

To support our tamariki, Explore is partnering with the Ministry of Education to provide free wellbeing support for students, their whānau, and school staff in Hawke’s Bay, Horowhenua, Wairarapa, and Wellington regions.

Explore’s Awhi Mai Awhi Atu Wellbeing Specialists are based in schools and provide a safe environment to work individually with students and whānau. Our Wellbeing Specialist can help them understand and cope with problems they may be experiencing, such as anxiety, friendships, emotional regulation, school refusal, disengagement, grief, and transitions.

School Delivery Plans are collaboratively developed between the school, Explore Specialist Advice, and the Ministry of Education. These Delivery Plans complement each school’s individual culture and reflect the needs and importance of its whānau and community. The plan to support each student encompasses all aspects of their lives and can be accessed through a self, whānau, or staff referral process.

Through the informed use of Te Whare Tapa Whā and the Mana Manaaki hui process, the Wellbeing Specialists can help develop the necessary coping skills and provide the right support, advice, and guidance from a whole-school, group, or individualised approach.
