Lighting up Aotearoa for people living with Parkinson’s

On 11 April, we join New Zealanders in standing alongside the thousands of people living with Parkinson’s, recognising their experiences and journeys on World Parkinson’s Day. It’s a moment to pause, reflect, and show support for those navigating the daily challenges of this condition.

HealthCare New Zealand is proud to support Spark the Night, a global campaign that brings people together in a simple but powerful way – lighting up landmarks in blue. Across New Zealand and around the world, buildings, bridges, and public spaces will shine in solidarity with the 11.8 million people living with Parkinson’s worldwide, including around 13,000 New Zealanders.

It’s about more than awareness

Parkinson’s affects every part of life, and no two experiences are the same. For some, it’s adjusting to small daily changes; for others, it means navigating bigger shifts in movement, independence, and confidence. Behind every diagnosis is a person, a whānau, and a support network learning and adapting together. Days like this matter, they help people feel seen, understood, and supported.

Walking alongside people and whānau

At HealthCare New Zealand, we’re privileged to support people living with Parkinson’s every day. We see the courage it takes, the importance of timely support, and the value of staying connected to home, community, and the things you love. Our role is simple: to provide support that works for each person, so they can continue living well on their own terms.

Join us for Spark the Night

On 11 April, landmarks from Auckland to Invercargill will shine blue as a symbol of hope and solidarity. If you’re out and about, take a moment to look up, snap a photo, and share it, or send it to [email protected]. The team would love your support!

Together, we can shine a light on Parkinson’s and help people living with the condition feel connected and supported.
